Day 5 - We made it!
Huge thanks to everyone who gave time, blood, sweat and tears to this year's Project Kent! The project is now complete and the awesome team at The Young Lives Foundation in Maidstone are now moving back into their newly refurbished offices!
Take a listen to what happened as we were wrapping up the project today and Rob Wills visited the team!
Day 4 - It's going to be really tight
20sec update: With the help of Garry and Laura the team powered through today to give us the best chance of completing the project for end of play Friday! There is a lot of touching up and cleaning up to do - wish us luck!
Day 3 - Will we make it?
20sec update: Prepping, tick! Filling, tick! Sanding, tick! Glossing, tick!
Today is all about the final coat of paint! Especially, focusing on the feature areas for the blue and orange paint! We are really relying on the volunteers to pull it out of the bag Thursday and Friday!
Day 2 - The work begins!
20sec update: Day 2 and things are hotting up in the Project Kent team! Today the team needed to get the last of the prep work ready and start the painting of the edges! After a really busy day, the guys have left and the paint is drying, hopefully in time for the big paint tomorrow!
Day 1 - The work begins!
20sec update: Today the team have had a hard job working in the heat! Removing all the staples, blue tack and things on the walls. The guys have been washing down the walls ready for tomorrow's painting to begin. Some work on the floor has started and a few bits of painting too!
Project Kent 2018 with Kent Reliance is on!
kmfm have joined forces once again with Kent Reliance and their team of fabulous volunteers to add a bit of sparkle back into the community.
Over the last few weeks kmfm have been asking you to nominate those special, community projects that are in desperate need of some TLC. They had a huge response and some amazing nominations from all areas of the county but the final project has been chosen.
This year’s Project Kent 2018 is the Young Lives Foundation in Maidstone. Over the next few weeks, kmfm and Kent Reliance will be sending in a troop of volunteers to transform their ground floor rooms into a vibrant, and friendly space for children, teenagers, young adults and volunteers who use the facilities on a daily basis. The team are ready to sugar soap, filler, sand, paint, drill and to add a splash of colour to the charity’s headquarters.
The ‘Young Lives Foundation’ is an independent children’s charity who help vulnerable, and disadvantaged children, and young people across the county. The area that is getting the Project Kent VIP treatment is the ground floor of the charity’s Maidstone building which is where the children and young people do their homework, socialise and use it to chill out. It is also used for mentoring sessions and visitor meetings as well as an office workspace. The Project Kent team of volunteers will be creating a welcoming and warm vibe as opposed to the plain, office-looking environment that it gives off now.
Brewers Decorator Centres heard what Project Kent is doing for the Young Lives Foundation and wanted to get involved. They have provided the team with all of the different colours of paint, accessories and materials they need to make the transformation, including filler, gloss, sandpaper, sugar soap, rollers and paint brushes.
Brewers Decorator Centres have 11 branches across Kent and have been operating in the county since 1924. Click on their logo below to check out their store locations, expert decorating advice as well as their wide range of trade paints, decorating accessories, designer paints and wallpapers.
Neil Vickery, Mentoring an Befriending Manager, “It will make an amazing difference. A lot of young people don’t have access to the right sort of space at home to do things like their homework and to meet with their mentors and befrienders”
