Leeds Castle, Carnival of History

Celebrating 900 years of Leeds Castle with a family ticket to Carnival of History!

The Castle has been lived in throughout nine centuries, owned by six medieval queens, King Henry VIII and latterly in 1926 by Olive, Lady Baillie who organised splendid weekend parties for stars of the silver screen, top politicians and royalty of the day.

Special celebrations and a fun-packed events programme will mark this historic milestone and highlight the work of the Leeds Castle Foundation in preserving the Castle and grounds for the next 900 years.

To celebrate, kmfm Breakfast's Garry and Laura (15th-19th July) are giving you the chance to win a family ticket.

These tickets are valid for 2 adults and up to 4 children and will give you free return visits for 12 months!

To win, Garry and Laura will play you some of today's biggest songs re-imaged as if they were around 900 years ago. If you know the song, you win!

Join Leeds Castle for the incredible ‘Carnival of History’ on 27th and 28th July in partnership with Arts Council funding, to celebrate their 900th anniversary!

Using large-scale costumes re-enactors will travel through nine centuries of the Castle’s history across two days. Local communities will come together to bring this spectacular event to life.

Witness extraordinary shows which will re-imagine medieval battles, Henry VIII on his way to the Field of Cloth of Gold in 1520, the Battle of Maidstone in 1648 and many other historic events of the Castle's fascinating history.

The Carnival will be brought to life by collaborations with Shademakers UK and leading professional street arts performers, alongside acclaimed national professional arts companies, community participants, dancers, band, volunteers and re-enactors, to create a vibrant and exciting procession through the grounds.

The Leeds Castle Foundation aims to give something back to local communities with the Carnival of History as local artists will be equipped with new skills in creating the costumes. The event will also provide a public platform for local people already involved in creative activities to showcase their talents.

Come and join the procession, which will wind its way from the Castle Island, around the estate to culminate in an impressive finale set against the stunning backdrop of 'the loveliest Castle in the world'.
