The Sprig of Thyme is a suite of eleven folk songs, which draws together long-standing favourites such as Willow Song and The Miller of the Dee, with lovely melodies, some familiar other less so.
The Sprig of Thyme tells a cautionary tale about a woman who is betrayed by a false lover. the song uses botanical imagery to symbolise the woman's life and the impact of the false lover and acts as a warning to others.
It has been sung throughout the generations and was first documented in 1689.
This promises to be an uplifting evening in the heart of Whitstable, with wine and other refreshments available.
Conducted by Spencer Payne, Musical Director, Whitstable Choral Society and Director of Music at St. Edmund's school, Canterbury.
