Thieves steal more than 70,000 pints of Guinness worth £115,000 in Cheshire

More than 70,000 pints of Guinness worth around £115,000 have been stolen from an industrial estate.

The thieves used lorries to take 800 barrels and two HGV trailers from a depot in Runcorn, Cheshire, on Monday, a Cheshire Police spokesman said.

One lorry connected to a HGV trailer containing the Guinness and left the site on Aston Lane at around 7.55pm.

A second lorry arrived at the same site at 9.12pm and connected to another trailer containing Guinness before leaving at 9.30pm.

The multinational company Diageo, which owns Guinness, has a warehouse on the Whitehouse Industrial Estate on Aston Lane.

The combined value of all the items stolen is approximately £205,000, according to Cheshire Police.

They believe both vehicles were driven by men, one of whom is described as white with a short dark beard and wearing a beanie cap. The other is thought to have been wearing a cap.

The trailers have branding for logistics company GXO on them, and are described as white tri-axle curtain side trailers.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy said: "It is famously said that 'Guinness is good for you', but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.

"It is with this in mind that we have wasted no time in launching enquires to identify those responsible for the theft of £115,000 worth of Guinness and the two trailers that housed the barrels - we will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen.

"As part of our investigation, to fully establish what has occurred, we are now appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to the theft to please come forward and speak to officers."
